EATMEPOPTART 2022 Playlist October Update
We can’t really believe that we’re already in October, staring down the barrel of the year-end gun. With more parties planned for this month, and the remainder of the year, we have also been gifted with so much new and amazing music.
The Eatmepoptart 2022 Spotify playlist has been updated with more than 30 wonderful new tracks to start your journey towards the end of a pretty unforgettable year (in a good way). Check out our five picks below!
1. WEYES BLOOD - “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody”
"We've all become strangers/Even to ourselves," a line in Natalie Mering's new single "It's Not Me, It's Everybody," hits hard and hits deep. The lead single to her upcoming album And In The Darkless, Hearts Aglow, the first since 2019's epic Titanic Rising, is two parts poetry, two parts raw beauty, and five parts pain. There is this suffering that we have collectively experienced over the years, and Weyes Blood has somehow turned it into the most beautiful pain we've ever experienced.
2. PARAMORE - “This Is Why”
We are thoroughly enjoying the current-era Paramore. With a recently announced new album, the lead single and title track “This Is Why”, carries on the pop torch from 2017’s After Laughter. The single is a powerful message of defiance and activism, and at the same time, a highly enjoyable bop. It’s energetic, it’s fun and it’s rebellious. Give us more!
3. CARLY RAE JEBSON - “Talking To Yourself”
The Loneliest Time, Carly Rae Jebson’s fifth studio album, is released later this month. “Talking To Yourself” is a signature CRJ track- from one perspective, it seems like a song about loneliness, and from another, it’s rings an obsessive ex who just can’t let go. We all know by now, Carly Rae Jebson’s seemingly joyous and dancey pop music always has has a more complex undercurrent of emotions and mixed feelings. “Talking To Yourself” clearly and superbly reiterates that.
4. PHOENIX - “Tonight (feat. Ezra Koenig)”
“Tonight” takes us on a nostalgic trip back to 2009, when Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix made first contact with our ears, and filled us with so much summertime joy that we heralded them as the best band ever. The single, which enlists Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig on guest vocals, is Phoenix’s best track in years that reminds us of the band’s indie-pop brilliance.
5. DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE - “I Miss Strangers”
Taken from their new album Asphalt Meadows, “I Miss Strangers”, is one of our favourites from the LP. One of the more upbeat tracks in the album, “I Miss Strangers” is an anthemic number with a relatable theme for all of us who went though the dreaded moments during the pandemic. “These days I miss strangers more than I, more than I miss my friends,” rings true and hits the right buttons.
