Welcome to the first edition of “ASK WEE”! A few weeks back, we shared a link for everyone to pose their questions to weelikeme (that’s me!) and had a number of great entries! So here I am, standing in front of you, replying to some of them…

How was Eatmepoptart started and what is Eatmepoptart about?
— Ethan

The Hollywood version of our origins: a green fairy appeared to me one night and told me that I needed to start an event and play Indie & Britpop that would gather and army of misfits to fight the forces of evil in a Ragnarok-like end-world event.

The other version of events is not as thrilling: a group of fellas got drunk at a house party and decided to start a night with music they grew up listening to.

I’d like to think of Eatmepoptart as this community where we spread the music we love to whoever that might appreciate it. Also very important that all of us here enjoy what we’re doing- so we connect very strongly to the music we play and the parties we throw, cos we wanna have as much fun as everyone else in the room!

How do you plan for your nights?
— Beth

Lot of sleep and hydration. Our event planning starts a few months ahead where we book our dates with the venues. We then assign the DJs, determine the themes, commission and brief the artists, and work out the ops for the nights. We have you always in our minds, so our mission is to always craft out our events to ensure maximum enjoyment.

thank you for your tremendous contribution to all the amazing nights and the local nightlife scene. in view of the times and trends, how do you guys keep up with the music?
— NSFW

Thank you! We try our best! In the past, the music we had was a bit more bounded- sourced and inspired by a select few playlists, blogs and other websites. These days it’s a lot more democratic and the boundaries are a lot wider. So there’s a lot more listening and sifting though you usual channels like Spotify and Youtube and music sites. There’s a lot of filtering before we find something that we think works for our nights! Our nights are different from the usual clubbing spheres, there’re hardly any DJ Charts to refer to, so it’s a longer process to find new stuff, but it’s very rewarding when we do!

Did you almost lose that feeling during covid period?
— Calvin

I’ll keep this short. We went through a rough time during the lockdowns. It didn’t help us financially and mentally. I’m just glad that everyone from the team managed to pull through that dark period and get our gears moving again this year. Eatmepoptart is a constant therapy for us where we suck in the good vibes from the room, and release it back to the dancefloor. So yes, happy that we can do this once again, and, it makes us less grumpy people.
