Halp! We’re fast approaching the end of the year and are making good of our final parties of 2022. The music has kept on coming at us (like a wrecking ball?), and during the past weeks we were really spoilt for choice with so much amazing new music,

The Eatmepoptart 2022 Spotify playlist has now been updated with some of the best earworms from last month. Check out our five picks below!

1. TAYLOR SWIFT - “Anti-hero”

Midnights, Taylor Swift’s tenth album, dropped last weekend and turned the world on its head. The 13-tracker was inspired by “13 sleepless nights”, and, as we all know, that’s the best (or worst) times for our heads to run in wild directions. In “Anti-hero”, the lead single and video, the song takes a synth-pop direction, and lyrically, she seems to confront some insecurities. The chorus, “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me,” is so catchy it’s been stuck on our heads. The song does seem like your mind going a little loco during those sleepless nights. We aren’t really gonna sit around analysing who those lines are referring to. We’re just gonna blast this on repeat and enjoy the music!

2. SOBS - “Air Guitar”

Ironic as this may sound, we‘re really happy for Sobs. The band recently signed to indie imprint Topshelf Records, and have released an album Air Guitar, with the title track as their first single. “Air Guitar” is a feel-good indie pop track, full of sweetness and polarising lyrics by singer Celine Autumn who laments about a exhausting relationship. Celine, complemented with the tight and talented Jared and Raphael, we have a full indie-pop package that melts our hearts and moves our feet.

3. BLINK 182 - “Edging”

Blink 182 dropped us a a series of huge news last month- Tom Delonge was returning, they announced a new album, and they’ve released a new single and video “Edging”. The single, with an ahem, somewhat dirty reference, is short, catchy, utterly satisfying and took us on a nostalgic ride. We’re not gonna look too much into the meanings of this, but well, “edging” might just be an analogy of Delonge’s absence and how that he’s back, they have some kinda “release”. Maybe?

4. DRY CLEANING - “Hot Penny Day”

Dry Cleaning has become one of our favourite new bands since their debut album, New Long Leg, dropped last year. Last month, they released a follow-up, Stumpwork, and it doesn’t disappoint! The band has shown some maturity while still retaining all the charms that defined them from New Long Leg. “Hot Penny Day” is an absolute standout track from the album- the weirdly sexy monotone vocals from frontperson Florence Shaw and deliciously talented backline, displays a mundane-yet-addictive irreverent number that is endless fun.

5. LADYTRON - “City Of Angels”

We’re stoked for the return of Ladytron. “City Of Angels” was released just in time for Halloween, and accompanied by a short film directed by Manuel Nogueira. The track reflects everything we love about the band who gave us some of the best hits such as “Seventeen” and “Destroy Everything You Touch”- crystallised electronica paired with commanding vocals that fits neatly in a cyberpunk world.
