Small Talk: Ffion
After months of planning, preparation and recording, the labour finally culminated in the release of debut EP ‘Bad Habits’ and an accompanying concert at The Substation last month. It’s no secret that Ffion Williams has taken the first step towards a successful career in at least one path- we witnessed the R&B songstress put out an emotional and exhilarating intimate show, as well as a little showcase of her fashion line ‘By Ffion Williams’.
We seized a chance after to pull the busy starlet aside and posed her with a few questions.
Hi Ffion how’s it going?
Heya! It’s going good!
Congratulations on the Bad Habits launch. You must be knackered from it. Could you tell us what was going through your head during the event and now that it’s over, how you thought it went?
Thank you! I’ve pretty much blocked out any memories from that night, I remembered I was constantly trying to stay calm throughout the night, actually being close to passing out just before we got on stage and coming close to crying at the end! So all in all a great night for me emotionally! It was a great night and it was lovely to catch up with so many people after.
We reckon you’re gonna take a break and catch a breather after the concert & EP release. Any idea what you have planned next?
Yeah, I’ll be taking the whole of July to just take a step back and really think about what the next steps are. But I’m excited for what the future holds!
Speaking of the future. We see that you are taking a route into fashion with a label called ‘By Ffion Williams’. Tell us more!
‘By Ffion Williams’ is the brainchild of Shaykh Akbar & me. We were with a couple of friends one night and throwing ideas around and the idea of starting a fashion line seemed like a great challenge creatively and great fun as well. We’ve been working on it secretly for about a year and I’m really excited to see how I can push the brand beyond fashion!
Let’s talk about the Bad Habits EP. It is a personal and pretty emotional ride throughout, from the not-so-pleasant relationships to the cherishable happier moments, which track hits you the hardest?
I’d say ‘I Miss U’ still hits me the hardest. For me it’s pretty much a word-for-word recount of what actually happened, so having to sing it repeatedly has always been quite difficult.
Who were your influences during the making of this EP?
My producer GROSSE is pretty strict about not listening to other music in the studio so most of the stuff is pretty “un-influenced. However the songs I wrote with Shayke were influenced by a mixture of things, Mabel’s “Thinking of You”, shaped the way I wrote some of the songs.
Before we end the chat, can you share five tracks that you’re listening to at the moment?
1. PHOX- Noble Heart
2. Gemaine – In My Feelings
3. Charlotte Cardin – Like It Doesn’t Hurt
4. Billie Eilish – Bored
5. HelloGoodbye – Baby It’s Fact
A naughty bunch that might incur the wrath of Justice Bao.
It was as if they appeared out of thin air. Earlier this year, Sobs released their debut EP ‘Catflap’, a collection of six tracks filled with that all indie pop wonder we desired.
Plenty of goodies in our 2017 Selection November update!
