What a great party at Poptart12 and what a great time to be alive!
For our final ‘Meet The Popettes’ for 2017. We speak to a bunch of wonderful people we met during our birthday party.

I was drunk! I don’t remember!

‘Break the Rules’ by Charli XCX

Diana (@luluakuma )

Do you remember the first time?
This is actually my first time… so of course I remember lah

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Meme songs haha or probably Lana Del Rey cause she’s for basic white bitches.

Who are you?
Ben (@bencherrr)

Do you remember the first time?
It was at Kyo! Got intro-ed to it by my friends Weimin and Russ and it was really fun. I tried to shout at Adrian for a song request but he ignored me. Also did that at Kinki but he ignored me again. BUT POPTART, I SHALL STILL BE AT.

Who are you?
Desiree (@dezforpresident)

Do you remember the first time?
Um…no.

(two minutes later…)

The first time I went to Poptart, I didn’t know what to expect. The moment I stepped in, I kind of knew I was going to keep coming back. There were no labels there, everybody was friendly as fuck and nobody bothered trying to be cool- everybody was just themselves. It was such a good feeling knowing that we’re all there to have a good time and listen to really good music. Everybody sang along when the music came on, it always felt like a festival. Every event was a night to remember. You’ll wake up the next day with a massive hangover and still think to yourself, ‘what a fucking awesome night’.

Who are you?
Russell (@russsiao)

Do you remember the first time?
It was hot, sweaty and a wild, steady rhythm through the night.

What is your favourite poptart anthem?
It usually comes on towards the third quarter of the night, when the new kids have already been exhausted. With a hoarse voice (from out-of-tune karaoke), I follow the drum beats as they slowly churn up into something familiar, something from my younger days. Some call it ‘the FIFA song’, but for me, it’s that song that I’ve been waiting for all night. ‘Young Folks’ by Peter, Bjorn and John. Till this day I still have no idea what the lyrics truly mean. The only thing worthy so far to break the trance-like rhythm is the perfectly matched ‘1901’, which takes my soul when the bass comes on, just like how it takes the crowd back into a jumping mayhem. I can’t quite describe it, it’s the best transition out there…jizz. Take away the lights, the drinks, the company, but with these anthems being played, you can depend on my attendance.

Who are you?
Yih Ching (@yihching_)

Do you remember the first time?
Tonight is my first time! I’m amazed at how comfortable the party is with all the friendly faces, the singalongs and the nice people everywhere. Not something I would usually expect from a club night!

Whats your guilty pleasure?
Disney, K-pop, classical music. I used to think they were guilty pleasures but now that I think of it, Music is just music!

Who are you?
Melina (@mel_kymmie)

What’s your favourite Poptart anthem?
Everlong – The Foo Fighters

What’s your best Poptart memory?
I think my best memory would be at Poptart’s set during Laneway this year. I was a fresh intern at Poptart and being part of the crowd hit me with goosebumps.

Whats your guilty pleasure?
Calvin Harris – ‘Feel So Close’. I still like some of that Feel So Close tune. Oh no am I gonna be in a Popette story?

Who are you?
Bekah (@starf7sh)

Do you remember the first time?
Tonight was my second time! It was really cool to see Sobs then have the clubbing thing after haha. I saw quite a few of my friends I didn’t expect to see so it was more fun! My friends and I were tired earlier so we went upstairs to nap LOL.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Hatsune Miku and EDM. Like… Hardwell.

Who are you?
Melany (@melanyatrump)

Do you remember the first time?
I remember the first time. It was at Zouk in 2013. I was drunkenly making out with someone that looks way too much like my brother.

What’s your favourite Poptart anthem?

‘Genesis’ by Grimes

Music in 2017 – the few good ones were remarkable and there was quite a fair bit of rubbish.
