Jasmine Sokko, Lorde, Lana Del Rey
Good Monday! It’s the National Day week and we have a funpack of great music to share. Scroll to the bottom for a SG throwback bonus.
1. Jasmine Sokko
One of the darlings of SG music, Jasmine Sokko, recently dropped a brand new single ‘Porcupine’. The song explores loneliness and a longing for intimacy that leads to some hurt and bloodletting from having metaphorical porcupine spikes. This is by far our favourite release by Jasmine.
2. Lorde – Perfect Places
Halfway into the year, Melodrama is a strong contender for our album of the year. Lorde‘s newest video ‘Perfect Places’ shows her, dressed up in elaborate garb, appearing solo in some of the exotic, gorgeous (and ‘perfect’) places around the world, celebrating a liberation that’s free from companionship. We wanna go to there and there and there!! How much ah??
3. Lana Del Rey – Lust For Life
Debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Lust For Life, Lana Del Rey‘s forth studio album is another strong contender for our album of the year. In a ‘same but different’ vein which we’ve witnessed in her last three albums, LDR has broken out of that mold with Lust For Life, that shows her maturity and ability to write greater and more complex pop.
*NATIONAL DAY BONUS*
We had plans to put up a brand new Simisal All-Local mixtape but it didn’t happen. While we punish the mixtape elves for missing the deadline, here’s a mix that we made two years ago for SG50 that features some of the best home-grown bands from the past few decades. Have a great time on your day off on the 9th!
A naughty bunch that might incur the wrath of Justice Bao.
It was as if they appeared out of thin air. Earlier this year, Sobs released their debut EP ‘Catflap’, a collection of six tracks filled with that all indie pop wonder we desired.
Plenty of goodies in our 2017 Selection November update!
‘F**k mainstream boys!’
