Fileunder:POSTROCK – From Monument to Masses

Feb 17, 2009 |  by  |  Music  |  Share  |

FMTM are a 3-man post-rock band from the California Bay Area, founded in 2000. I chanced upon them whilst browsing RCRD.LBL, a ”network of online record labels and blogs serving up fresh new music downloads and exclusive content ”.

Anyway, back to FMTM. They are signed under the DIM MAK label (yes, owned by the very beardy Aoki sibling) and are going to release their 4th album, titled “On Little Known Frequencies” next month.

The band has cited the likes of Fugazi to Tortoise, Afrika Bambata to DJ Shadow, Don Caballero to Godspeed You Black Emperor as their influences. “Comrades and Friends”, a track from their 2nd album, “The Impossible Leap in One Hundred Simple Steps”, sounds like a DJ shadow drum loop  sample fused with post-rock guitar riffs. My favourite song from the band,“Deafening” has your usual post-rock guitar work but backed with synth beats reminiscent of The Album Leaf’s.

WARNING: Listen to them only when you are in an angsty, Explosions-in-the-sky-mood, you hear? Not suitable for making out or happy party days.
