Every week, Poptart contributor Zhan lists and rants about his five noteworthy eargasms.
1. Class Actress – All The Saints
Coy female vocals with a synthy ploinky sound are a tried and tested formula. Taking after Au Revoir Simone and fellow Brooklyn based band Chairlift, you have Class Actress with a tune that catches your ear very easily. What Class Actress has going for her though, is the very Depeche Mode vibe which I find very attractive.
I really hope that this song doesn’t turn out to be just the strongest one in her up-coming album Rappocher though, because the new wave female vocal scene is really packed at the moment and it’s taking more and more to stand out.
2. Mister Heavenly – Pineapple Girl
This song is just a shade over 2 minutes in length, but it’s such a feel-good well crafted guitar pop song that immediately brings to mind a tasteful cross between Weezer and The Shins.
No need to listen too hard to the lyrics though, for i’m not exactly sure what having someone as your ‘pineapple girl’ means but it’s all good.

3. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – Garden
An absolutely gorgeous dance tune, with so much melody and fun that you just can’t help but put this song on repeat. I like how the sing-song boy girl vocals wrap around a beat that is at heart, a house tune with such an irresistible beat. And somehow, the twinkly keyboards in the background manage to weave very nicely with the bleep bloopy 8-bit sounds that bob along so nicely without a care in the world.
This is for you if you like The Whitest Boy Alive. Also, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs? Awesome band name.
4. Tortoiseshell – This Girl
If you ever need just one song for an island getaway, this would be it.
What I love about tracks like this, is how they manage to repackage the classic sound of the 80s into something just so refreshing. If you listen carefully to This Girl, you can nod along to the Talking Heads and Happy Mondays influence very easily, but find them all polished with a clarity and nuance which only modern production techniques allow.
Definitely a must listen if you like the M83 vibe.
5. Santogold - Lights Out (DJ Mehdi Remix)
A tribute.
This should be the future of popular electronic dance. But alas it all seems moving to the wobbly bass kind of dubstep.
Stay thirsty.
